Nature is my constant motivation. Whether I am walking my dogs through the coastal light of the shore or the dappled shadows of the woods, my practice begins with capturing those fleeting, lived moments of connection with the landscape.
With an MA in Fine Art and many years of both professional practice and teaching, my work is rooted in the high art traditions of landscape, seascape, and still life. However, I am less interested in literal documentation and more in the personal representation of experience. For me, a painting is not just about the subject itself, but a record of how I view that subject—translating the world through a lens of 'Unapologetic Colour.'
My aesthetic sits at a vibrant intersection of influences. I draw on the structured marks of the Post-Impressionists and the emotional exuberance of the Expressionists, blending them with a contemporary maximalist sensibility. I love the tension of a 'structured abundance'—where a formal composition provides the skeleton for an overflow of rhythmic marks and high-saturation tones.
Teaching others has only deepened my own fascination with the process of making. It reminds me daily that art is a physical act of translation. Through my work, I aim to represent the energy and 'vibration' of the environments I love, creating statement pieces that invite the viewer to see the familiar with a newfound, joyful intensity.
